It all started in Chicago and somehow ended up in sunny Berlin. Chicago-based Ballroom Boxer was looking to work with someone on their first single and subsequent album. After a few warm leads with a couple of L.A. producers, they finally found a fit in Gordon Raphael, their hero for his work on the first couple of Strokes’ albums, as well as Electrical Audio, recently featured on Dave Grohl’s/Foo Fighters HBO special ‘Sonic Highways’. “We wanted to forge our own path on our first album so we rethought everything,” singer/guitarist, Mike Altier said. “We skipped (working with) a label and instead, used the money from commercial licensing to write the album at a Wisconsin lakehouse, work on the first single with Gordon via Berlin and track the rest of the album at Electrical Audio with Jon San Paulo and Flashpoint Tribeca with Tim Rusins.” So far the way they’ve re-imagined the recording process is paying off. The band has already generated interest from labels, radio stations and festivals, including playing in South Africa in 2017. The band created a Snapchat lyric video for their first single, ‘Make It Home’ engineered by Gordon Raphael.
