Sam Black Church, Boston’s sensational hardcore act are bringing their signature sounds to Brighton Music Hall! Sam Black Church (SBC) was formed in Boston in 1988 by brothers Ben (guitar) and Jesse “Jet” Crandall (vocals), J.R. Roach (drums), and Richard G. Lewis (bass). They were influenced by a variety of hardcore and metal artists such as Cro-Mags, Bad Brains, Motörhead, Slayer, Metallica, and they began writing and rehearsing in a small local studio. They released their debut EP (Unincorporated) in 1990 as a limited pressing of 2,000 copies and it sold out in a matter of weeks, and is a much sought after collector’s item now. In 1992 the band got a record deal with Taang! Records and went on to released 2 EPs (Sam Black Church, Let in Life) and 1 full-length album (Superchrist) with them over the next 3 years. During this time they also honed their craft by becoming a relentless touring machine performing with acts such as Clutch, Helmet, Stuck Mojo, Fear, Nothingface and Skinlab. They released two more studio albums; 1997’s That Which does not Kill us...Makes us stronger and 1998’s The Black Comedy, after which the band went on hiatus. They briefly reunited in 2001 for a live performance to support the release of their double CD compilation album, For We Are Many.
